If you bite your nails can it make it more likely for your appendix to burst?

My friend told me his dad bit his nails for ages and he had appendicitis and it burst, and when they took it out, it was full of bits of his bitten nails that went to the appendix.





I'm just curious if this could've really happened. I googled but didn't find much.If you bite your nails can it make it more likely for your appendix to burst?

wow that is too funny. I had my appendix removed when I was 5 years old. In my mind, it looked like a pea with all the fragments of fingernails I had chewed up, sticking out of it like pins sticking out of a pincushion. Did your friend's dad read my mind? where was he in 1967?





Actually the appendix is tube shaped so there goes my five year old minds' theory.

I think that it may, I have heard that too I have never heard that happen to anybody, I think that stuff can get into your appendix and cause irritation and in some cases rupturing.

Woah Honey may I please slap your friend for you! That is so not true, nails in the digestive system would be digested in your stomach before it even got to the small intestine!
Your friend is completely pulling your leg meaning he's joking around with you. It is impossible for that to occur.
there is NO way nail biting has anything to do with a busted appendix...however our hands/nails are the breeding ground for numerous bacteria and you should DEFINATELY think twice before placing a finger let alone a NAIL into your mouth :)
