Is it possible to cut your dog's nail with normal human clippers or do you HAVE to use dog clippers?

I really wouldn't....they aren't designed for dogs nails, which vary greatly from ours. You would probably crack and split the nail, causing irritation and possible bleeding...which is very painful.

Some of the ';pet'; clippers seem to have the same problem--I am hoping for a peticure for Xmas--I'm tired of going to the groomers! Is it possible to cut your dog's nail with normal human clippers or do you HAVE to use dog clippers?
it is possible to use regular clippers but it can squeeze the nail and hurt the dog if you are taking a lot off. if you are just taking the tip it shold be fine.

also if you are trimming your dogs nails and they are white nails stay out of the black part, if the dogs nails are black just take the very tip.Is it possible to cut your dog's nail with normal human clippers or do you HAVE to use dog clippers?
I've had more success trimming with people's trimmers than with dog nail clippers. I use the clippers for people's toenails as my dogs are large. However, now I use the Pedicure dremmel type trimmer and that works much better and the dogs react less to it.
Well you can try but they probably won't work unless the dog is a very small breed. Human clippers won't cut a Cavalier's nails, I tried.

Baby puppies nails can be clipped with human clippers.
If its a tiny puppy you can use human clippers. I use to use human clippers on my cat. Dog nails are hard and no way normal nail clippers will cut them.
its quicker and easier if you use dog clippers. Depends on what kind of dog your clipping. Little dogs nails are not a thick as larger ones.
Depends on the size of your Dog? It is ok for small dogs. But large dogs it is better with dog clippers.
if you got a small dog u can use normal clippers, but if u got a big dog u should use dog clippers.
whatever you do......don't use a dog clipper...unless off course you want to clip the dog...;-)
