Dont worry that is called a dew claw and it is normally taken off by surgurey for it is very painful when it gets ripped out(this happens a lot) so I would advise to take the dog to the vet and possibly get the nail removedTHe nail on my dogs paw snaped.IT was the nail highest up on the paw probably on the leg. This happen too my pit bull once. After 3 days of me trying to keep it clean and after trimming it. It got infected. I'd probably go ahead and take the dog to the vet just in case.
your dog is in pain take it to the vet asap or an infection could kill your dog
I would call the vet and see if they can recommend what to do.
If in doubt.. get it checked out. Go see the vet.
If you ever encounter a situation like this again, and it's bleeding, use cornstarch to clot the blood...it works like Styptic powder and is less expensive.
I had a Dog that had that happen and I took her to the vet and the doc said it was a tumor in the foot that caused the claw to loosen. I thought she just caught it on something.


So I would get the dog checked out. I had my dog for 16 yrs and I had no idea that a dog could get cancer in the foot like that. It spread and eventually my baby lost the battle. good luck.
